The University of New Hampshire Equine Program is dedicated to making sure our older school horses find excellent retirement homes. The horses listed below are available for adoption. Please make sure to look through our Prospective Adopter Application Form and Lifetime Adoption Agreement. Ollie

Ollie is he sweetest and most well-mannered member of our herd.  He is timid, and wary of new and unusual objects, but he loves attention, treats, and being patted and groomed and he is gentle enough to be handled by children and less experienced horse people.  He has unfortunately been struggling to recover from a suspensory injury for the last year, which has prevented his use in riding and longeing classes, but he has still been a regular in handling labs where his impeccable manners make him invaluable.  Before his injury, he was one of the best teachers for inexperienced longers.  Under saddle, he needs a relaxed rider who can help him feel confident and is an adorable dressage mount with a talent for lateral work when paired with the right rider with the tools to help him relax and stretch through his back. Ollie is seeking a loving forever home where he will be showered with love and affection while finishing his rehab.  Ollie has gained a bit of weight and lost muscle in his extended convalescence and will need a home that can support him as his weight and conditioning are gradually addressed.   He would also be an outstanding pet or companion thanks to his winning personality and affectionate nature.   Because he is timid and shy of unknown stimuli, he would probably not be a good fit for a mounted therapeutic riding program, but might be a great fit for an environment that does unmounted therapeutic horsemanship.

Bailey

Bailey is widely considered the cutest thing on four feet and his gregarious personality makes him a standout in our stable who will be greatly missed by staff and students alike.  He is inquisitive, affectionate, clever, and exceptionally friendly.  Unfortunately, he has been struggling to recover from a hindlimb lameness for most of the last school year. He is seeking a loving forever home where he can receive the care he needs.  Bailey is a sturdy and flashy pony who is clever and can be a bit pushy on the ground (and under saddle), especially if he thinks he can boss his human, so he needs confidence in his handlers and riders.  However, he is brave and sociable, and has worked in the UNH therapeutic riding program as well as riding classes and team practices.  With a knowledgeable rider, he is a delight undersaddle and a lovely dressage pony with a showy trot.  He does at times struggle to pick up the right lead canter, but also jumps small fences and courses confidently.  He would be a good fit for a therapeutic riding or equine-facilitated learning program.
