The COLSA Dean's Office of Academic Affairs provides students with individual guidance and support in achieving their academic and professional goals. We are committed to fostering a collaborative partnership between advisors and students, and helping students navigate their academic experience at UNH.
As a first-year student in COLSA, you will be paired with an academic advisor in the Dean's Office that will:
- help you navigate student support resources
- help you understand university policies and procedures
- assist you in developing your academic plan
- guide you to explore academic and extra-curricular opportunities
- discuss academic performance and success strategies
You will also be paired with a faculty advisor, who you will eventually transition to as your primary advisor. Your faculty advisor, as an expert in their discipline, will serve as a mentor and guide in your area of study. They will:
- provide guidance on internships, research opportunities, graduate school options and career pathways
- discuss curriculum requirements with you and help you identify courses of interest within your area of study
- offer subject-specific advice
- help you identify essential skills and experiences for your future endeavors
The academic advisors in the COLSA Dean's Office are available to help with the advising needs for all students, whether you are a first-year student assigned to one of us, or an upper-class student assigned to a faculty advisor. Students are expected to meet with their assigned primary advisor at least once each semester.
