Sarah Proctor

As a veterinarian I have worked with cats, dogs, horses, cows, goats, sheep, llamas, pigs, rabbits, ferrets and other small animals. In addition to teaching, I practice medicine and surgery at the Cocheco Valley Humane Society in Dover, NH. I hope my work with local shelters will lead to improved lives for shelter animals, and fewer homeless animals overall.

I have always loved educating my clients and technicians and think teaching students is a wonderful extension of that. I use my experiences as a practicing veterinarian to make class material relevant to students' interests and future careers. If you can relate course information to something significant in your life, your chances of retaining that information increase exponentially. My favorite medicine truly is laughter, and I aim to bring it into my classroom, even at my own expense.

I am the program director for the Veterinary Technology program at TSAS. I teach Anatomy and Physiology and Fundamentals of Animal Health, which are core classes for Veterinary Technology students. I also teach small animal courses covering animal care, nursing skills, diseases and population medicine.

I am a jock at heart. If you throw a ball, I will chase it. I play on a tennis team and 2 soccer teams. I ski, hike, bike, kayak and do yoga. I just starting racing Cyclocross – fun in the mud!! I am an avid reader, enjoy knitting and traveling to new places and new countries. I am working on turning my land into pasture so that one day I can own a pet cow.

College is all about becoming independent. You should try to find the answer to your problems on your own first, but remember the answer might be that you need to ask for help!
