UNH is proud to be a national leader in higher education in sustainability. Over 70% of UNH students report that sustainability is very important to them, and over one third report that they explicitly chose to attend UNH because of our leadership in sustainability. Not surprisingly, students are looking to engage with sustainability and embed it into their educational experience while at UNH.
While UNH offers a dual major in sustainability and a host of other majors, minors, and standalone courses that are sustainability-focused, we know there is a significant opportunity to integrate sustainability concepts across a much wider-range of courses. This new Faculty Learning Community is designed to help faculty from diverse disciplines consider what sustainability means to their disciplines and will bring interested faculty together to share resources, ideas, learn about what has been successful, and help one another problem solve and design new opportunities to integrate sustainability -whether it is into one class session, a new module, or across an entire course.
During each of the five sessions, UNH Sustainability Institute faculty and staff, together will CEITL staff, will work closely with faculty from a wide range of disciplines to facilitate discussions and workshop activities with the goal of ending the academic year with a redesigned class, module or entire course.
Participants in the FLC will be eligible for the 2022 UNH Sustainability Awards, including funding incentives to implement new courses/course components.
Beginning and ending with Talk about Teaching presentations (September 30, 2021, and April 5, 2022), the Faculty Learning Community will comprise four sessions:
Talk about Teaching (September 30, 2021)
- Session 1: Tuesday, 11/9/21
- Session 2: Tuesday, 12/7/21
- Session 3: Tuesday, 1/18/22
- Session 4: Tuesday, 3/08/22
Talk about Teaching (April 5, 2022)
- During this Talk about Teaching, FLC participants will share examples of how they have integrated sustainability into their courses (registration for this event will be available in Spring 2022)
