Undergraduate Research

Tianyi Duan '28, from Beijing, China and Greenfield, NH, is pursuing her B.S. in biology at UNH. Her undergraduate research is focused on different Great Bay marine species' abilities to tolerate heat . The summer, she has been studying ribbed mussels, Asian shore crabs, and European green crabs.

Somer Loto, from Brookline, MA, is a B.S. biomedical science: medical microbiology major and a minor in genetics. Somer shared her experience working in Vicki Jeffers' lab researching the parasite Toxoplasma gondii.

Rowan Grzeszkiewicz-O'Neill '26, from Los Altos, CA, is majoring in Equine Science with minors in Zoology and Business Administration. Rowan presented their research on horse mane pulling and stress response at UNH's Undergraduate Research Conference (URC).

Ellianna Jordan, from Brookline, NH is majoring in Biomedical Science: Medical and Veterinary Sciences and Nutritional Science at the University of New Hampshire. She’s set to graduate in 2025 and is preparing for medical school.

Alexa Downs, a senior at UNH, leads a research project focused on improving maternal and early childhood nutrition in New Hampshire, developing community outreach materials and educational programs.

Jacob is conducting research on the effects of ketamine on memory and learning. The research aims to improve treatment and safety guidelines, supported by expert faculty and advanced lab techniques.

Luke Nugent ’26 is a forestry major fand is currently conducting research on two non-native insects threatening eastern hemlock trees, which are widespread in the Northeastern U.S.

Allison Carl graduated in 2024 with a degree in biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology. She is now pursuing her doctorate in molecular and cellular biology at Dartmouth College.

Alexzandria Sheppard ’25 is a biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology major who is studying whether a particular protein could help improve the long-term storage of certain drugs.

Westley Mitchell ’26 is a wildlife and conservation biology major contributing to research addresses growing threats of invasive species, tree diseases and climate-related disturbances in New Hampshire’s forests.

Sabah Sabir graduated from UNH with a bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences: medical and veterinary sciences. In her senior year, Sabah began earning credits toward her master’s degree in molecular and cellular biotechnology in UNH’s accelerated master’s program.

Braden Foulks ’25 has been working with Professor Becky Sideman and Professor Iago Hale on their respective research.
