Ellianna Jordan, from Brookline, NH is majoring in biomedical science: medical and veterinary sciences and nutritional science at the University of New Hampshire. She’s set to graduate in 2025 and is preparing for medical school.
Why did you choose UNH?
Ellianna Jordan: I chose UNH because I loved the campus when I toured, and it’s also close to home!
What is your major and what do you love about it?
Ellianna: I have really enjoyed both of my majors. The biomedical Science major helped solidify my understanding of the hard sciences as I prepare for medical school. In contrast, my nutritional sciences major encouraged a broader, more well-rounded approach to understanding clinical conditions.
What's the best academic experience you've had at UNH?
Ellianna: I’ve really enjoyed the research I’ve been involved with at UNH. In my freshman year, I received the REAP award to complete research with dairy calves over the summer, which was very enjoyable and my first step into research. More recently, I’ve had the opportunity to work in the MENA Lab, which has been incredibly rewarding.
I’ve learned so much about scientific research while collaborating with some wonderful people!
What's the best experience you've had at UNH outside the classroom/lab?
Ellianna: I’ve enjoyed being a part of the UNH Women's Club Volleyball Team. I’ve always been part of a team, and for anyone who’s interested in playing a club sport, I would highly encourage it!
How is UNH preparing you to achieve your goals?
Ellianna: UNH has many incredible resources, such as research grants, a pre-health advising committee, and Career and Professional Success, which have all been very helpful as I apply to medical schools this upcoming cycle.
What should prospective students know about UNH?
Ellianna: Prospective students should know that while UNH may be a larger institution, that also means there are many opportunities to get involved and resources available. They just have to be sought out!
Please share one unique or interesting fact about yourself.
Ellianna: I grew up in Arizona! I moved with my family to New Hampshire during high school, and while it was a difficult adjustment, I’ve come to love New England!
Have you received any UNH scholarships, grants, or awards?
Ellianna: Yes! I’ve received the REAP and URA awards for research, and I also have a Presidential Scholarship for merit that I received when I applied in high school.
