Samantha Ansart graduated from UNH in 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology, with a minor in sociology. She is now attending medical school.
COLSA: Why did you choose UNH?
Samantha Ansart: I chose UNH because of its history of groundbreaking scientific research. Although I ultimately decided not to pursue research, having professors and peers who were involved in research greatly enhanced my learning experience, and has kept me interested in learning about and following research topics related to my major and field.
COLSA: Where are you attending medical school?
Samantha: University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine
COLSA: How did UNH prepare you to achieve your goals?
Samantha: As a BMCB major, my courses provided me with a solid foundation for the MCAT prior to medical school applications as well as my coursework in medical school. I frequently return to previous textbooks and notes for reference. Additionally, my sociology minor and experience as a sexual well-Being Intern have influenced how I interact with patients and how I plan to practice as a physician in the future, which is arguably just as important as understanding the science behind medicine.
COLSA: Is there anything you think a prospective students interested in a professional health graduate program should know about UNH?
Samantha: UNH has an abundance of opportunities to help you determine what you’re passionate about from undergraduate research and on-campus internships to student organizations representing all health professions. Getting involved will help you find people with similar interests and allow you to make connections valuable for your future.
Most importantly, faculty at UNH are supportive and helped guide my learning to reflect my professional interests and goals.
