Liv Thrower is a nutrition major from Windham, New Hampshire.
Liv: I am part of the COVID-19 tester section for Convenient MD. I feel a great sense of pride knowing that I am contributing to campus testing so UNH could re-open safely and stay open.
Liv: I applied for a position to be a COVID-19 tester because I knew the community here in Durham needed help. I wanted school to reopen for the fall, so I decided to take action.
Liv: The most important thing I’ve learned so far is that we must stick together as a school and a community. It really was inspiring to see that when the world was in trouble, the younger generation stepped up and took on tremendous amounts of responsibility, when others did nothing. That’s incredible.
"I am proud to be able to say that when the world was in chaos caused by the pandemic, I was brave enough to be a part of a team that helped protect and educate the community."
Liv: Working the front lines against this terrible virus was not easy. At moments it is scary, never knowing what could happen, and at other moments, it is motivating that as employees we were directly involved in fighting back against COVID.
Liv: This experience has been incredibly valuable to me because I have learned a lot about my own resiliency. I am proud to be able to say that when the world was in chaos caused by the pandemic, I was brave enough to be a part of a team that helped protect and educate the community.
Liv: Swabbing people in 100-degree weather with two layers of gloves, a gown, C-94 mask and a protective shield was not easy! We do appreciate how cooperative and respectful the public has been with our system for testing amidst the COVID chaos.
