Therapeutic Riding Program

The UNH Therapeutic Riding Program (TRP) spring 2024 6-week session will begin on March 25, 2024.  We are pleased to offer a variety of group mounted Therapeutic Riding and ground-based equine assisted activities on Monday and Wednesday afternoons.  New this spring, we will be offering the option of private mounted of ground-based sessions on Saturday mornings. Online registration is required for all participants.

UNH TRP welcomes PATH-credentialed instructors Madeline Cicatelli MS OT, ‘18, ‘19G and Sarah Armentrout to the Fall 2023 team.  Maddie, a licensed occupational therapist and certified therapeutic riding instructor, was first exposed to the power of equine therapy as a UNH TRP student. Sarah Armentrout, co-founder of Carlisle Academy in Lyman Maine, has over 25 years of experience in the field of equine-assisted services and has been recognized as a PATH International Advanced Riding Instructor and Mentor.

The Therapeutic Riding Program at the University of New Hampshire accepts both children and adults with physical, cognitive and/or emotional disabilities to participate in classes both on and off the horse.  Classes are facilitated by UNH students gaining hands-on training in the field of therapeutic riding. More information for clients and families about UNH’s Therapeutic Riding Program can be found here

The UNH Therapeutic Riding Program has been offered at the University of New Hampshire since 1989, where it serves as a valuable hands-on learning environment for students interested in the therapeutic riding field. The program utilizes the department's horses, 40-stall barn, and the W.C. Skoglund indoor arena facilities on the UNH campus in Durham.  Questions regarding the Therapeutic Riding Program can be directed to Liz Johnson, faculty in the Department of Agriculture, Nutrition, and Food Systems.
