Working as part of the NH Agricultural Experiment Station, the Assistant Manager for the research farms will oversee the day-to-day tasks of the research facilities and supervising student and hourly employees. This position is responsible for ensuring that research plots, field management equipment, and facilities are properly managed. The assistant manager will advise the development of financially and environmentally sustainable farm operations practices, coordinate with other farm personnel to ensure help is acquired when necessary, and regularly attend (in-person or remotely) professional development opportunities to maintain best management practices, knowledge, and pesticide license. Working as part of the NH Agricultural Experiment Station, the Assistant Manager will direct daily activities related to the care of 30 horses such as feeding, cleaning stalls, sheds, paddocks and waterers, turn-out/turn-in and medical treatments as needed. The assistant manager will schedule student staff work shifts using computer/email and supervise the lead farm worker and students workers in daily activities, oversee facility maintenance, assist the veterinarian and farrier and other professional appointments, maintain medical records on UNH horses, assist with tours and outreach activities and assist with facility setup/tear down for horse shows and facility rentals. Working as part of the NH Agricultural Experiment Station, the Lead Farm Worker will milk, feed and care for the dairy herd. The lead farm worker will be responsible for the care of the calves and heifers and facility and equipment maintenance, contribute to the success ongoing dairy research program, assist students who are part of the UNH Animal Science undergraduate program, and be part of the outreach events that happen at the dairy.
