Distinguished Alumni - 2009

1993 BS Water Resources Management
2001 MS Natural Resources: Water Resources

Jeff Merriam recently accepted a position with the U.S. Forest Service in Durham, NH. Prior to January 2010, he was employed as an Analytical Instrumentation Scientist in the Department of Natural Resources & Environment here at UNH. He received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science at UNH. Jeff said at 18 he chose UNH because it was affordable and seemed like a good school. After graduating and working for UNH from 2001-2009, Jeff knows what a great place UNH is for students to get the most out of their education. Working in science has taken Jeff to exciting places like Costa Rica and Puerto Rico. Jeff was an important part of the staff at UNH, as he was a great help to students in lab courses. He guided students with projects, making sure they had the correct data.  Jeff was a person students could turn to when they needed to fill in the blanks.

So what’s the one important piece of advice Jeff gives to students? Set aside plenty of time for a lab because something always goes wrong, “it always takes twice as long as you think it will!”  Jeff Merriam was a great staff member for students to learn from especially since he was once a UNH student himself.
