2021 Durham Farm Day Registration

NH Agricultural Experiment Station's Woodman Farm and Fairchild Dairy

New Hampshire Agricultural Experiment Station's Woodman Horticultural Research Farm and Fairchild Dairy Teaching and Research Center.

After a challenging 18 months, the New Hampshire Agricultural Experiment Station—the state's public research and development organization for agriculture, food, natural resources, and the environment—is delighted to welcome back members of our community to introduce and re-introduce themselves with our research and facilities!

Visit and learn about two of the Agricultural Experiment Station's research farms.

Fairchild Dairy Teaching and Research Center
Saturday, Aug. 21, 9:30–10:30 a.m. Tour is at capacity. Preregister to be added to the wait list.

Modeled after a typical New England Dairy operation to ensure that new research and management expertise is directly applicable to many state and regional stakeholders, the Fairchild Dairy houses approximately 90 milking-age cows and 70 growing, replacement animals. This tour will be led by the dairy manager Jon Whitehouse, who will provide an overview of the ongoing research projects, daily operations, the milking parlor, and our research and teaching Holstein cow herd.

Woodman Horticultural Research Farm
Saturday, Aug. 21, 2–3 p.m. Tour is at capacity. Preregister to be added to the wait list.

At Woodman Farm, scientists develop and test new fruit, vegetable, and ornamental crop varieties; assess alternative crop management techniques; study the impacts and best strategies for protecting against pests and diseases; and work on organic production. Woodman Farm manager Evan Ford will lead the tour. Attendees will learn about kiwiberries, seedless table grapes grown in New Hampshire, and alternative pruning techniques that can help grow better tomatoes, among other ongoing research projects.

Due to UNH COVID-19 precautions, each tour will be limited to 25 participants and pre-registration is required. Please use the registration form below to register. We look forward to seeing you (back) at our research facilities!
