Research Topic: Estimating Proliferation and Distribution of the Chaga Fungus (Inonotus obliquus) in the White Mountains National Forest
My research is centered on determining the spatial distribution of the medicinal Chaga fungus among birch trees in the White Mountains National Forest. I am recording instances of Chaga conks within the Forest boundaries, noting correlations and relationships between Chaga growth and other variables, estimating the volume of the Chaga resource, and ultimately utilizing this information to provide the Forest Service a reliable basis on whether to begin a special permitting process for Chaga harvest.
