How did the Thompson School help you get where you are today?

Thompson school taught the fundamentals of basic construction, design and environmental conditions. I felt with the courses for construction management, structural engineering, computer aided design/blue print reading, etc. helped me directly for my entry level position working for a general contractor in Boston Massachusetts “Skanska”. I felt the professors were all well-seasoned from past careers they held, and proved to show real occurrences that happen in everyday life during your career. They were great mentors as well….not just Professors/Teachers.

What did you like best about the Thompson School?

I liked how the Thompson school was a career focused curriculum that had a lot of “one on one time” with the professors so you can get actively engaged and learn your future career shorter than a 4 year bachelor’s degree.

Describe your experience at the Thompson School.

When I got selected for the Thompson school, I was very excited to start my college education in a highly elite school to prepare for my career. I liked how I could live on campus, enjoy the college experience and work specifically on my selected major the first day of school. I also felt with additional face time with UNH Thompson school professors, enabled me to succeed in the work force after graduation.

DJ Brennan - 2Did you pursue other degrees after graduating from TSAS or did you move directly into the workforce?  Did the Thompson School prepare you for the path you took?

I did pursue additional degrees, one being of design and communications at McIntosh College and Project Management at Northeastern University.  I felt with the additional schooling would help later in my career growth to become a manager or better. But the Thompson School at UNH thought me exactly what I needed to start my career path.

How did the Thompson School help you achieve your goals?

When I graduated Thompson School of 2005, I knew with my built up portfolio and resume would get the job I always admired. Roughly after graduating, I got employed for a very large construction company at Skanska USA Buildings. I worked on many complex construction projects as listed below:

  • Build UMASS Pharmaceutical in Mattapan ma (Project value 190 million), TF Green Expansion in Warwick RI (project value 120 Million), Bristol Myer Squibb Pharmaceutical in Devens Ma (project value 800 million).
  • At each one of these projects as a Project Engineer, I managed change management control, Plan & specification reviews, Schedule creation, Contract review and bid buyouts for subcontractors.

What are your goals for the future?

My near future goal would to be a Director or Project Executive in the construction Industry. I feel with my vast knowledge of multiple types of past construction projects (Airport construction, Pharmaceutical, Water Treatment plants, Hospitals, and now Data Centers) that I have many opportunities in my future career growth.
