Research Topic: Extending the production seasons of strawberry and spinach in the Northeastern U.S.
The primary objective of our season extension research with strawberry is to determine the most effective low-tunnel materials for enhancing yield, season duration, and fruit quality of day-neutral strawberry cultivars in the Northeastern United States. We are also working to determine the most suitable spinach varieties and planting dates for winter production in an unheated high-tunnel environment in the Northeast. Both projects focus on extending production seasons for growers to support local agriculture and business, and increase the supply of regionally produced food for consumers.
