Research Topic: Astrocytic Primary Cilia

The goal of my research is to elucidate the pathophysiological roles and molecular mechanisms of astrocytic primary cilia in the brain. It has been established that astrocytes play critical roles in response to a variety of neuropathological events including reactive gliosis during traumatic brain injury. Primary cilia are microtubule-based signal antennae present in most mammalian cell types, including astrocytes. However, thus far little is known about the physiological and pathological function of astrocytic primary cilia in the brain. Investigation of this will enhance understanding and potentially support the development of novel treatments to combat brain injury and support healing.
