Soundscape Ecology

Soundscape ecology is an emerging discipline that blends classical landscape ecology and bioacoustics into one unique field. For my research I will investigate the biotic and abiotic sounds of a prairie landscape in Oklahoma and the sounds of the White Mountains National Forest in New Hampshire. Analysis of sound recordings will consider pre-existing knowledge of plant and animal community dynamics as well as historic land management practices. This holistic approach will be used to inform land managers of a low-impact methods to efficiently survey biodiversity across all taxa.
