Study Abroad for Equine Studies students

Study Abroad

The University of New Hampshire offers a wide variety of study abroad opportunities that students in the equine studies major can participate in.  Students should not feel limited to locations that offer equine programs.  The World Cultures Discovery Requirement is waived for students  who participate in a study abroad program that is at least eight weeks in duration.

There are several university requirements for study abroad.  Students must:

1.            Be in good standing with the Student Conduct System.

2.            Have earned at least 32 credit hours total, and at least 12 credit hours at UNH.

3.            Have a minimum of 2.5 cumulative GPA.

4.            Have a declared major.

Study abroad can be done during an academic year, semester or during a summer.  Spring semester of junior year is a very popular time for study abroad.

UNH’s Center for International Education and Global Engagement (CIEGE) offers students information on the more than 500 different study abroad opportunities that are available to students, as well as information about the application and preparation process.  For more information, go to:  https://www.unh.edu/global/education-abroad

Students interested in participating in a UNH-approved study abroad program should take the following steps as detailed here

Angela Kennedy Class of 2018
Angela Kennedy BS Equine '18
Oxford-Brooks University
England

“Studying Abroad was eye-opening and enjoyable. I attended Oxford-Brookes University in England (organized by Academic Studies Abroad), which enabled me to take 3 Equine Studies courses that counted towards my major. This was extremely beneficial to keeping me on track for graduation. Through the hands-on nature of the program, the research I completed in my Equine Performance Science, Equine Genetics and Equine Behavior courses, and the many field-trips to stables and the university equine facility, I now have a more well-rounded understanding of the equine world in the UK and globally.  I feel more confident because of studying abroad: I believe I am prepared for my future career, whether I want to remain in the United States or find employment abroad.”
