IHSA Team Biographies

Victoria Barry

Rider: Victoria Barry, Intermediate Flat/Novice Fences

Major: undeclared

Graduating Year: 2017

Riding Background: I have been around horses for as long as I can remember! When I was younger I spent my time eventing with my pony packer, but during high school I began competing in the hunter/jumpers and spent my junior and senior year competing in the interscholastic equestrian association (IEA) and was the captain of my team my senior year. I currently own a six year old Dutch Warmblood named Boom, who I compete in the jumpers with.

Favorite thing about IHSA: My teammates! I love riding all different types of horses and competing, but having your teammates to fall back on, or to cheer you on, that's what makes IHSA so special for me.

Sarah Beggan

I have always enjoyed riding many different horses, so I am excited for the experience that IHSA is giving me.

Favorite thing about IHSA: My favorite thing about IHSA is the challenge of riding so many different types of horses, and I also love the support and community from my teammates!

Major: Business Administration with a duel Option in Marketing and Information Systems

Graduation Year: 2018

Riding Background: I was on a horse before I could walk. I grew up with a Dressage trainer as my mom in Reno, Nevada, so horses have always been a part of my life. I got my first pony when I was 4 years old and competed in dressage until I was 7, as well as partaking in Pony Club. I began jumping with my trainer Lynn Mullins at 7, and have been with her ever since. I bought my horse Gavin when he was 4 from my trainer and have been training/showing and learning with him for the past 8 years. I have competed at various local and “A” rated shows in the Northern California/Nevada area in Hunters, Jumpers, Equitation and Medals.

Favorite  thing about IHSA: My favorite part about IHSA is being part of an amazingly supportive and fun team in a more individual sport, and the fact that I am able to get back into riding after ski racing competitively for many years.

Favorite Thing About IHSA: My favorite thing about IHSA is the amount of friends I’ve made. Through the crazy show mornings and trips to dunks to the IHSA team dinners, bonding with everyone is my favorite without a doubt. And after only knowing the team for a semester and a half, I love everyone so much and can’t wait for many more memories.

Olivia Thompson

Rider: Olivia Thomson, Novice Flat / Novice Fences

Major: Communications

Graduation year: 2017

Riding Background: I have been riding for a really long time. I started riding when I was about three and rode only during the summer for about two years. I then moved on to actual lessons at a show barn pretty close to my house. I leased my first pony at the age of 10 but this unfortunately didn’t last long as I fell off and lost my confidence. About a year later I went to a little schooling barn and rode there for about 7 years. I could only improve so much there though so I left and went to another show barn for just a couple lessons here and there. I also worked at a therapeutic riding facility where I converted horses from western to english. This summer, I got the chance to lease an amazing 10 year old Oldenburg mare called Keely. She had spent the last three years having babies so this summer was the first time she was ridden after her turnout. She has improved amazingly this summer and I am excited to hopefully work with her next summer.

Favorite thing about IHSA: IHSA is a great way to get to know people. Seeing as I live so far away, I didn’t really know anyone at UNH so IHSA was definitely a good way to make friends. I also really like that you don’t ride the same horse every time. It is a really good way to improve on your position and skills.

Tianna VestriRider: Tianna Vestri , Advanced Walk/Trot/Canter

Major: Equine Industry and Management

Graduation Year: 2017

Riding background: Started riding when I was 12 doing dressage and competed at training level. I picked up jumpers three years afterwards and did both for two years before I fully switched over to jumpers competing up to 2’3” at local schooling shows. I switched over to hunters last summer showing at the SSHC rated shows competing at 2’ with a horse new to jumping.

Favorite thing about IHSA: My favorite thing about IHSA is being with a great group of teammates. I love being able to draw a horse and get on them without knowing anything about them and truly putting my riding skills to the test.

Cheryl WickizerRider: Cheryl Wickizer, Novice Flat/Fences

Major: Equine Industry and Management

Graduation Year: 2020

Riding Background: I started riding when I was 7 at Summit Farm in North Salem, NY. I rode mostly equitation but would occasionally show hunter if it was the horses strong suit. I was very interested in learning a lot about horses and riding so I joined Pony Club in middle school. This gave me the chance to ride in other disciplines so I tried dressage and eventing for the first time.  Knowing I would want to ride in college I did IEA throughout high school to get the practice of riding unfamiliar horses in a show setting.

Favorite Thing About IHSA: I love my teammates and being a part of a close-knit team. Everyone is so supportive and is there for you during your good and bad rides. We’re a big family and they’re so fun to be around during long show days.
